The resolution to this storyline may unfold in the upcoming SmackDown episode, according to Dave Meltzer. Rhodes is advertised to make his Mania decision during the episode.

He wrote in the ‘Wrestler Observer Newsletter’ that as of last week, Reigns vs. Rock was still under consideration. Meltzer stated, “As late as last week, Roman Reigns vs. The Rock was not out of play. The Rock wanted it and even said so in media interviews. It was said that he was heavily pushing for it. But at that point, as late as after the Rumble, the plan was for Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and to do Reigns vs. Rock at some point in the future.”

Saudi Arabia was talked about for that match from a company standpoint with the idea of doing the match they had spent a year plus building toward, with the idea that perhaps having Reigns vs. Rock in Saudi Arabia would get the government to kick in more money both for the company and Rock. It also could be at next year’s Mania, but that would make many years in a row where that much was talked about for “next year’s Mania.”

While there is a lot of uncertainty around this match, could the Elimination Chamber also be a possibility for Johnson to face Reigns?

There’s speculation about the possibility of ‘The Rock’ appearing at the Elimination Chamber premium live event in Perth, Australia. The city reportedly inquired about securing his presence.
